Snake couldn't have known that he would be coming to Groznyj Grad in an impromptu, forced defection of sorts. "But beyond that, in most situation it's better to disable an opponent than to kill them."

There were all sorts of tactical reasons behind it, capturing them and interrogating them, and furthermore any enemy that left the battle injured consumed resources and took up space without being able to contribute to their sides efforts.

There were plenty of moral and emotional reasons to leave them alive as well, but thinking about those always lead her thoughts to The Sorrow...

She couldn't help but smile slightly in amusement at the knowledge that Snake had given Ocelot gun advice. "You have to be very confident to give advice to an enemy." The Joy didn't believe Snake was overconfident or arrogant, the statement was mostly to find out why he'd said that to Ocelot.
